Little Steps Christian Childcare

A logo redesign that hid the meaning inside the letters
Little Steps Christian Childcare in Gig Harbor had a logo parents genuinely loved. A cloud-shaped sticker with multicolored lettering, two little footprints, and the full name spelled out underneath. Charming, and completely stuck.

It didn't scale. It didn't work on a website header or a single-color embroidered polo. And for a center whose faith is central to how it operates, the mark said very little about it.

The brief was the hard kind: keep everything people are attached to, fix everything that doesn't work.
The decision the whole project turns on
In the new wordmark, the three lowercase t's in "Little Steps" are drawn as subtle crosses.

That one move does the work a separate icon or a tagline would have done badly. The faith is present in the mark itself rather than bolted onto it, and the tone stays playful. A parent sees a friendly, hand-drawn logo first, and the crosses second.

It also gives the name two readings at once: little steps as the developmental journey of a young child, and little steps as a faith-guided path. Same three letters, both meanings, no extra elements.

What changed, and why

Cloud sticker → horizontal lockup
The old shape fought every rectangle it was placed in. A horizontal mark fits a website header, a sign, a banner, and an email signature without cropping.
Refined typography
Same hand-drawn warmth, better letterforms. The logo is legible at small sizes and cohesive across print and screen.
Kept the rainbow palette
Bright primaries and secondaries were the most recognizable thing about the original. Changing them would have thrown away years of parent recognition for no gain.

Full-color and single-color versions
The mark had to survive one-color embroidery, a vinyl decal, and a fax-quality permission slip. That constraint shaped the drawing from the start.

The result

A flexible identity ready for signage, apparel, web, and marketing materials. A system that still looks like the Little Steps families already know, while communicating what the center is about more clearly than the original ever did.
He communicates clearly, collaborates with genuine openness, and approaches our business needs with positivity and professionalism.
